Keahole Point Light Replacement

The Keahole Light Pole for the United States Coast Guard was replaced by Heartwood Pacific. This lightpole is located at Keahole Point on the Big Island. Heartwood Pacific worked to located the correct resource to fabricate the monopole, with the materials being of a high grade stainless steel. The monopole was constructed of a custom made piece of high quality stainless steel. A project challenge was that the demolition of existing pole could not take place until the new monopole was constructed. This required Heartwood to keep the site operational and place the new lightpole within 8 feet of the existing light pole. During demolition of the old pole care had to be taken not to damage the new operation monopole. An excavator was utilized with a custom plate to destruct the pole in sections. The plate was put up against the face of the pole, strapped into place and then sawed around to remove each section. Heartwood was the prime contractor for this project and staff completed the project management, installation of the new monopole, and the concrete work.
